Special Program and Events

The West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services is a cabinet-level agency within the West Virginia state government and acts as the lead entity for programs serving older West Virginians. A Commissioner appointed by the Governor is the chief administrative officer and oversees all program and fiscal operations. In addition to agency staff members, the Bureau consists of a 15-member Advisory Council on Aging. The important programs and services offered through the Bureau of Senior Services are all described here in the WV Bureau of Senior Services web site. Two current programs of particular significance are listed below:

Family Caregiver Support Program
This program is in every WV county out of your local BoSS service provider (for a listing of these service providers, click here.) Caregivers of any age are eligible to use these services who are providing care for an adult 60 years or older. Services provided by this program include:

1. In-home and day care respite
2. Information and assistance
3. Support groups and counseling
4. Training for the caregiver

Alzheimer's Disease Demonstration Grant
This program is a grant from the Administration on Aging to provide services for adults with Alzhiemer's disease and their caregiver. In-home respite services are provided through this program in the following eight WV counties:

1. Boone
2. Logan
3. Marion
4. Monroe
5. Pendelton
6. Preston
7. Tyler
8. Webster

Day care respite services are provided through this program in the following three WV counties:

1. Berkley
2. Ohio
3. Wood
